Hi, and welcome. A short one today, and the one you will want the first time a screen looks out of date: how every screen reads your workbook, and the one button on each that reads it again.

In your workbook, type a new balance on the Monthly Balances tab and press Enter. Pressing Enter matters: until you do, the number is still being typed and nothing has saved it.

Switch to the Dashboard tab in your browser, if it is still open. It is showing what it read when it opened. Click your browser's reload button, or close the tab and click the Dashboard button in the workbook again. The new balance is there.

On the Projections screen there are two buttons for this near the top. Read my saved numbers again reads the workbook once more and keeps the what-ifs you are trying. Reset to my saved numbers reads the workbook and clears everything you tried. Use the first when you only changed a balance.

On the Payoff screen the button is called Read My Sheet Again. Click it after you change a rate or a payment on the Liabilities Detail tab, and the plan is rebuilt from the new figures. Reset to My Sheet clears any change you tried on the screen itself.

On the Ask Clarity screen, Refresh at the top makes Clarity read your workbook again before its next answer. Clear empties the box you are typing in. Start Again clears the whole conversation and starts fresh.

The Reports screen reads your year each time it opens, so reload the tab, or clo.

If a screen still shows the old number after you have read again, go to the cell.

The screens never hold your numbers; they read them from the workbook each time they open. So a screen is never wrong on its own. If it shows an old number, either the workbook still has the old number, or the screen read the workbook before you finished typing. Type, press Enter, then read again.

The buttons always open a new browser tab and leave the workbook where it is, so the fastest refresh of all is: close the screen's tab, click the button again.

Type, press Enter, read again. If it still looks wrong, the cell in the workbook is where the answer is. See you in the next one.

The idea behind it

The screens never hold your numbers; they read them from the workbook each time they open. So a screen is never wrong on its own. If it shows an old number, either the workbook still has the old number, or the screen read the workbook before you finished typing. Type, press Enter, then read again.

Worth knowing

The buttons always open a new browser tab and leave the workbook where it is, so the fastest refresh of all is: close the screen's tab, click the button again.

Remember

Type, press Enter, read again. If it still looks wrong, the cell in the workbook is where the answer is. See you in the next one.
