Hi, and welcome. Today the one step that happens outside Money Mastery: getting the month's file from your bank. Every bank hides it somewhere slightly different, so here is how to find it anywhere.
Step by step
-
Sign in to your bank in a browserA computer is easiest the first time; the phone app usually has the same button under More, or Statements.
-
Click the account you want: checking, or the cardYou are looking for the page that lists each purchase and deposit. It is called Transactions, or Activity, or Statements.
-
Look for Download, or ExportIt is often a small icon with an arrow pointing down, near the search box or the filters. Click it.
-
Choose the dates: the first to the last of last monthSome banks offer Last month as one click; choose that.
-
Choose the formatCSV is best. If the bank only offers PDF, choose PDF; Money Mastery reads both.
-
Click DownloadThe file goes to your Downloads folder. Open the folder and find it; it often has a long name full of numbers and the bank's name.
-
Rename it so you will know it: right click the file, click Rename, type Chase ch
-
Do the same for each account, one file eachThen open Money Mastery and bring them in, one at a time, with the Upload button. If your bank will not give a file at all, the link under the upload box, Show me how to get it from my bank, has bank by bank directions.
The idea behind it
Once a month, one file per account. Name each file by the month and the account, and next month takes half the time.
Worth knowing
Most banks let you choose Last month in one click, and some remember the format you chose, so by the third month the download is two clicks.
Remember
Transactions, choose the month, export as CSV. Three clicks at any bank. See you in the next one.
