Welcome to La Soglia. Today we open your workbook for the very first time, tie it to your sign-in, and answer the setup questions. Ten minutes, two screens, and you never have to do it again.
Open the welcome email and click the link to your workbook. Your browser opens a Google Sheet with your name in the title. It is yours; nobody else can see it. If the browser asks you to sign in to Google first, sign in with the address you joined with.
Look along the top of the page, just under the Google menu. There is a row of buttons on a warm brown band: Start Here, Dashboard, Projections, Reports, Ask Clarity, Settings, HELP. They sit on every tab, so you can never lose them.
Click Start Here. A new browser tab opens with a screen called Let's Open Money Mastery. Your workbook is still open in the first tab; nothing has moved.
Under Confirm Access the screen asks for your email, and it is already filled in.
The next screen is Create Your PIN. Type at least four characters you will remember. This is what you sign in with from now on, on every screen. Click Create PIN.
The screen says You're Ready. Click Start Setup. Because this is your first time, it opens Setup straight away, and at the top of Setup it says Step one of five.
Step one, About you. Type your first name in the first box; it is the only thing Setup needs, and it is how Clarity and your reports greet you. The pronoun, your birthday and Where you are right now are optional; the birthday is used only to count the years to retirement. Click Continue.
Step two, Your household and taxes. All optional: a partner or spouse name, whether you track together or separately, and where you pay tax. Fill in what you like or click Continue to skip it.
Step three, How you like to track. The tracking year is already this year. Choose your currency from the list; if yours is not there, choose Something else and type its three letters, like C H F. Choose the day of the month you would like a reminder to update your balances, the first is a good one. Click Continue.
Step four, Do you run a business. Click Yes or No. If Yes, type its name and type, and choose whether business figures show on your dashboard. Click Continue.
Step five, Your first accounts. Type the name of one account, like Chase Checking. Choose what kind it is, choose whether it is yours or your business, choose whether it is something you own or something you owe, and type what is in it today. Click Add this account. It appears under Added so far. Add another, or click Finish.
The screen says You are set up, and everything you told it is already in your workbook. Go back to the workbook tab in your browser. At the bottom, click the Your Setup tab: your answers are there. Click the Accounts Directory tab: your account is there. That is the whole of day one.
If you ever want to change an answer, Setup is in the list down the left of ever.
Here is the only idea you need today. The workbook holds your numbers. The buttons open the screens that explain them. Setup fills the workbook in for you from your answers, so you read on the screens and type only your balances.
The reminder you chose in step three is real. On that day each month an email arrives with one line, update your balances, and a link straight to your workbook.
Start Here, then Setup, then your first account. That is your first ten minutes, and it is already more than most people ever write down. See you in the next one.
