Name your account tabs

Before the first statement, each account tab needs a real name and the balance you are starting from. Setup does it for you; here is how to change one by hand.

4 min Setup Workbook

Your workbook may look different. If there is no brown band of buttons along the top, use the Money Mastery menu in the menu bar above your workbook. The names are a little different there: Categorize is Categorize Transactions, Reports is Clarity AI & Reports, Dashboard is Open Dashboard, and Start Here is Getting Started.

Hi, and welcome. Before the first statement, two quick things on each account tab: a real name, and the balance you are starting from.

The Setup screen named your accounts on your first day, so most tabs already carry a name. This is for the tab that does not, or the name you want to change.

Click one of the account tabs at the bottom of your workbook. It is called something like Account One.

At the top of the tab is the name cell, with a hint beside it. Click it, type Chase Checking, press Enter.

Look at the tab at the bottom of the page. It has renamed itself to Chase Checking. One edit, two places.

On the same top row, further along, is the starting balance cell. Click it and type what the account held on the first day you are tracking from, so every month after adds up from a true starting point.

Do the same on each account tab you use. A tab you do not use stays empty and is left out of the reports.

From here, the month comes in through Upload, and the rows land below the header on this tab. Open Categorize and the account's name is at the top of the window, exactly as you typed it.

Short enough to read on the tab, specific enough to know in six months. Chase Checking. Amex Gold. Not Account One.

Rename a tab and every screen follows: the Categorize window, the Upload window's "Upload a statement to", the Dashboard's account list, all in the next minute.

One edit, two places. Name it, and the tab follows. See you in the next one.
