Split a transaction
One charge that was really two things. Open the row menu, Split Transaction, two pieces that add up, Apply Split.
Your workbook may look different. If there is no brown band of buttons along the top, use the Money Mastery menu in the menu bar above your workbook. The names are a little different there: Categorize is Categorize Transactions, Reports is Clarity AI & Reports, Dashboard is Open Dashboard, and Start Here is Getting Started.

Welcome in. Today a small trick with a big payoff: splitting one charge that was really two things.
Here is the row. Whole Foods, one hundred twenty one dollars and forty cents. It was groceries, and it was also the vitamins.
At the far right of the row are three small dots. Click them. A short menu opens: Split Transaction, Attach receipt. Click Split Transaction.
The split window opens over the list, with the merchant and the total at the top.
In Split one, click the Type box and leave it on Personal. Click the Category box and choose Groceries. Click the Amount box and type eighty.
In Split two, choose Pharmacy in the Category box and type forty one point four .
Look at the line that says Remaining. It read one hundred twenty one forty when you started; now it reads zero, and the yellow note under it has gone. The pieces must add up to the original exactly, and the Apply Split button stays grey until they do and every piece has a label.
If you want three pieces, click Add another split. If they should all be the same size, click Split evenly and it divides the total for you.
Click Apply Split. The window closes. The original row is marked as split, and two new rows appear right after it, one for each piece, each with its own label.
Each piece is its own row now. Click Need or Desire on each, and add a memo if you like. They count in your totals as two rows; the original counts as nothing.
Changed your mind. Click the three dots on the split row and choose Undo Split. The two pieces disappear and the single row comes back as it was.
Split when a charge had two real purposes that belong under different labels. Not for a row you cannot decide on. That one gets the closest label and a memo.
Split evenly is built for the shared dinner: four pieces, one click, and the amounts are divided to the cent with the odd cent on the last piece.
One row, two true purposes, both told honestly. That is the split. See you next time.
