Add a label that does not exist yet

The label you need is not in the list. Create it from the Categorize window, under the right group, without opening the workbook.

4 min Categorize Labels

Your workbook may look different. If there is no brown band of buttons along the top, use the Money Mastery menu in the menu bar above your workbook. The names are a little different there: Categorize is Categorize Transactions, Reports is Clarity AI & Reports, Dashboard is Open Dashboard, and Start Here is Getting Started.

Hi again. Today a quick one: adding a label that does not exist yet, right from the Categorize window, without opening the workbook.

You are labelling a row and the label you want is not in the list. Vitamins, say.

Near the top of the window, under the Clarity bar, click Add New Category Label. A small panel opens.

Click Income Label or Expense Label. Vitamins are an expense.

Click the group box and choose the group it belongs under. This is the main category it rolls up into on your reports, and it is required. Choose Health.

Click the name box and type Vitamins. Click Submit. The panel closes and a message says the label was added.

The label is added to the Expense Labels tab in your workbook, and it is in the .

If you ever want to rename or remove a label, that is done on the Expense Labels.

One check before you create anything: will this come up again, month after month. If it will, make the label. If it is a one-time row, use the closest label and write the detail in the memo. A short list you trust is worth more than a long one.

The new label appears in Clarity's suggestions too, so after you have used Vitamins twice, the next CVS row proposes it.

Create the label when it will come up again. Otherwise, the memo. Easy. See you in the next one.

Worth knowing

The new label appears in Clarity's suggestions too, so after you have used Vitamins twice, the next CVS row proposes it.
