Welcome back. Two buttons today: Reports, which draws your months as charts, and Ask Clarity, where you ask a question about your own numbers and get an answer you can check.

Click the Reports button at the top of your workbook. The screen opens in a new tab, called Your numbers, and it says Loading your year while it reads your Monthly Balances tab. If you have not typed a month yet, it tells you so: once your Monthly Balances tab has a month in it, your reports appear here.

There are four charts, and each one answers one question. Net Worth By Month: am I going up or down. Assets Against Debts: how much of what I own is really mine. Debt Over Time: is what I owe shrinking. Account By Account: which account is doing the work, and which one is dragging.

Click Net Worth By Month. The line runs across the months you have typed, one dot per month. Click Bars and the same months stand side by side as bars; some people read bars more easily. On a phone, slide the chart sideways to see all of it.

Under every chart, The figures behind it: the exact numbers the chart was drawn from, month by month. If a dot looks wrong, this table tells you which month, and the fix is that month's column on Monthly Balances.

Click Assets Against Debts. Two lines, what you own and what you owe. The gap between them is your net worth, and watching the gap widen is the whole game.

Click Debt Over Time. Only what you owe, so a payment you made shows as a step down. Three months of steps down is the most motivating chart in the workbook.

Click Account By Account. Every account's balance over the months, each its own line. The savings climbing and the card falling are the two you want to see.

Now click Ask Clarity at the top of your workbook. The screen is called Your numbers, in words, and the line under the title says what it does: ask about your own figures in plain words, and Clarity reads your numbers from your workbook, not the internet.

Click the box called Your question and type the way you would say it. How much did my net worth change since January. Which account went down the most. What would it take to be debt free by next summer. Click Send.

Clarity answers in a few plain sentences, and under the answer are the figures i.

Ask a follow up in the same box. It remembers what you just asked, so what about March works on its own.

Here are the questions people ask most, and every one of them works. How much did my net worth change this year. Which month was my best. What do I owe in total, and what did that cost me in interest last month. If I keep going like this, when am I debt free. Which account is growing fastest. How much did my savings go up since June. What is my biggest debt. If I paid two hundred more a month on the card, when would it be gone. Am I on pace for the goal I set. Say it the way you would say it to a friend; Clarity does not need special words.

Under every answer there are four buttons. Share This Answer makes a link. Email It To Me sends the answer to your inbox, for the ones you want to keep. Copy Safe Summary copies a version with your exact balances left out, for sharing with a partner or a coach. Leave It Out keeps an answer out of what you share. At the top, Start Again clears the conversation.

If you ask something Clarity cannot see, it tells you so and points you to the right place. That is on purpose. An honest I cannot see that is worth more than a confident guess, and the line at the bottom of the screen says the rest: Clarity can make mistakes, check important numbers before acting.

Three things to carry away. Reports are pictures of the balances you typed, so a month you skipped is a gap in every chart; the fix is always on the Monthly Balances tab. Ask about your own numbers, not about money in general: Clarity reads your workbook and nothing else, and it says so when a question is outside what it can see. And check the figures under every answer before you act on one; the screen says it plainly, Clarity can make mistakes, and the figures are there so you do not have to trust it.

Copy Safe Summary is built for the money conversation you have been avoiding: it keeps the direction and the plan and leaves your exact balances out, so you can hand it to a partner without handing over everything.

Four charts for the year, a question when you have one, and the figures underneath so you can check. That is the free edition, complete. See you next time.

The idea behind it

Three things to carry away. Reports are pictures of the balances you typed, so a month you skipped is a gap in every chart; the fix is always on the Monthly Balances tab. Ask about your own numbers, not about money in general: Clarity reads your workbook and nothing else, and it says so when a question is outside what it can see. Worth knowing

Copy Safe Summary is built for the money conversation you have been avoiding: it keeps the direction and the plan and leaves your exact balances out, so you can hand it to a partner without handing over everything.
